I often catch myself looking to please myself with my performance and I am starting to realize that I will NEVER please myself or be satisfied. But those times when I play for God, I feel free. When I play for God, I am free. Free because of Jesus. Romans 8 says, therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because the Spirit’s law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. I am FREE in Jesus Christ. No matter what I do, I can trust in God’s promise to us, to protect us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).
Someone once told me that sometimes it doesn’t FEEL like God is close or maybe it feels like He is leaving you high and dry, but He is ALWAYS there. Jesus, the son of God, sent to earth to die on the cross so that we could have a relationship with God, told his disciples in Matthew 28, I am with you ALWAYS, to the end of the age. This promise is assured through the indwelling of of Christ’s Spirit.
So, I play for God. Sometimes even I forget that and step on the field looking to please myself but a quick reality check brings me back to remember that I will never be able to fully satisfy myself but rather in God, I find peace and freedom to play for His glory.
